Velazquez, Davis named Orlando Health Players of the Week
Baseball and softball teams kicked off the 2025 season and had impressive starts to the season, making two players the choice for Orlando Health Student-Athletes of the Week.
Softball pitcher Avery Velazquez and baseball player Jeff Davis both helped their teams to big weekends and were honored on Monday.
Velazquez made her Titans debut one to remember, pitching a perfect game in the victory over USC Union in the season opener. The freshman from Ocoee struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in five perfect innings.
Then on Saturday Velazquez shut out Tallahassee State College for seven innings and came into a tight game in the nightcap against Rend Lake, getting out of jams in the sixth and seventh innings to pick up her first save.
In three games, Velazquez struck out 16 and did not walk anyone, allowing no runs on just three hits over 13 2/3 innings.
Davis went 4-for-8 in the three wins over the weekend with two doubles and four RBI with three runs scored. Playing right field, Davis started all three games and also had two sacrifice flies.
The Titans went 3-0 at the SCF Legends Classic in Bradenton.
