The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a pair of conference wins on the road Saturday.
The No. 18 ranked Titans bounced back with a sweep against St. Petersburg College, winning the first game 7-2 and the second game 9-6. Eastern Florida State College improves to 21-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
In Game 1, each team scored early and the game was tied 2-2 until the fourth inning when Jessica Camacho gave the Titans a 3-2 lead with a sacrifice fly. Up 3-2 the Titans would open things up in the fifth, scoring three times as Jessica Merk and Martha Jones each had RBI singles. The Titans would add a run in the seventh to win 7-2.
Avery Velazquez picked up the win with another complete game.
In the second game, St. Petersburg College took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and the Titans would tie things in the fourth.
The game headed to the sixth inning tied when Madison Velazquez singled, Isabel Otero walked and Ashley Corrazini singled to load the bases.
Avery Velazquez stepped up and hit a grand slam home run to break the tie. It was the third home run of the season for Velazquez.
St. Petersburg would add two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-4.
A big error led to two of the three runs in the top of the seventh for the Titans, but St. Petersburg was not finished.
They would score twice and Avery Velazquez came in to end the rally. She would get the strikeout for the second out and then a groundout to end the game.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to No. 9 Seminole State College on Tuesday for a big series with the Raiders. The first game is at 2 p.m.
