Women's basketball team loses opener at Lady Jets Holiday Classic
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team fell in overtime in the opening game of the Lady Jets Holiday Classic in Americus, Georgia on Sunday.
The No. 23 ranked Titans saw South Georgia Tech score the final six points to send the game to overtime and then knocked off the Titans 71-62 in overtime. It was just the third loss of the season for Eastern Florida State College.
After a slow start the Titans got things going and led after the first quarter 17-13 on an E'Zaria Adams 3-pointers. It was a slow second quarter for both teams as Eastern Florida State College led 25-20 at halftime.
South Georgia Tech had a big third quarter to take a three-point lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Down three, the Titans went on an 8-0 run to take a 45-40 lead and a couple of big 3-pointers from Ashleigh Battle, the second giving Eastern Florida State College a 51-45 lead with 3:40 left. But that would be the final basket for the Titans as the Lady Jets rallied to send the game to overtime.
South Georgia Tech kept things going, leading throughout the overtime session to improve to 9-4.
Adams finished with 21 points while Battle had 14 in the loss.
The Titans will play No. 9 Shelton State College on Monday afternoon in the classic. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. in Georgia
