Women's golf team places third, Tang wins title

Eastern Florida State College women's golfer Mila Tang was the individual medalist at the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invite on Tuesday.

Tang shot even par in the final round to win the title by one stroke, helping the Titans to a third-place finish at the first spring event of the season.

Eastern Florida State College shot a 312 in the final round to finish behind champion SCAD Savannah and Dalton State in the event. The Titans began the day by wrapping up the second round with the best round of their tournament – a 301.

Tang opened the tournament with a 3-under and then was four over in the second round before finishing at even par. She had three birdies and three bogeys in the final round and played the front nine at 3-under for the tournament with just one bogey all weekend.

Ann Burel shot a 71 in the second round and finished in a tie for 13th overall with former Titan Gracie Doke, who plays for Truett McConnell.

Jenna Barnett rebounded from a tough first round to finish 16th in the tournament, shooting rounds of 74 and 78 in the final two rounds. Teammate Emma Parker shot her best round of the tournament in the final round, posting a 79 to finish 24th and Brittany Odic placed in a tie for 31st. Cayden Challacombe placed 36th overall as an individual for the Titans.

"Good solid play by Mila to finish round 2 and the third round. Saw glimpses of good play by the team over the three rounds," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "This was a good test for all and gives the team plenty of information on what we need to do to clean up the scoring."

Eastern Florida State College will play in the Catawba Invitational which will be held at Duran Golf Club in Viera on March 10-11.
