Men's tennis team sweeps Michigan Tech

Men's tennis team sweeps Michigan Tech

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season, defeating Michigan Tech on Thursday.

The Titans, who are ranked No. 2 in the ITA NJCAA national rankings, won all three doubles matches in convincing fashion.

The No. 1 doubles team of Alexandr Achour and Alberto Perez Mellado won 6-0 while the duo of Salva Mulet and Filip Sormaz won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Zakaria Achour and Konstantin Kukaras picked up the win at No. 3 doubles, 6-4.

The top three singles matches were all highly contested with two of them going to tiebreakers to decide the winner.

Perez Mellado battled Vitor Jordao at No. 1 singles in close, back and forth contest as he lost the first set 7-6 and then came back from down 6-5 to win the second set 7-6 and force the tiebreaker. The two traded points throughout the tiebreaker with Perez winning 10-8.

At No. 2 singles, Mulet won the first set 7-5 and then came back to capture the second set 7-5 to pick up the victory.

Pablo Garcia Rodriguez lost the first set 6-3 but stormed back to win the second set 6-4 to orce a tiebreaker. Garcia continued to play well in the tiebreaker, winning 10-6.

Tomas Kurz Cardozo won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 while Kukaras won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Sormaz won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

The Titans, who are now 2-0, will play Howard University Sunday morning at Titan Tennis Center beginning at 10:30 a.m.
