
Softball team edges Rend Lake in JUCO Kickoff
The Eastern Florida State College softball team wrapped up the JUCO Kickoff with a thrilling victory over Rend Lake College Saturday night in Madeira Beach.
The Titans finish the weekend 3-1 on the season after a 1-0 win in the final game of the day.
Tied 0-0 in the fifth inning Jessica Camacho led off with a single and went to second on the errant throw. Keyleigh Flaherty pinch ran and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Flaherty would take off for home on Avery Velazquez groundball and would score the only run of the game.
Luci Walters got the start and worked out of jams in the first and fourth innings and would leave after a base hit in the sixth. Avery Velazquez came into the game in relief and found herself with runners on second and third with nobody out. Velazquez got the strikeout, then Ashley Corazzini made a nice catch for the second out. Isabel Otero got to a ball in the hole and made the throw just beating the runner to end the threat.
Then in the seventh inning Rend Lake once again threatened with runners on first and third with one out. Velazquez would strike out the next two hitters to preserve the win.
Aracelis Jimenez had two hits in the win.
Eastern Florida State College will be home Tuesday for the first time this season, hosting Florida State College at Jacksonville at 3 p.m. Admission to games at Titan Softball Complex is free and fans can watch the games on EFSC Titans YouTube page.
