The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team celebrated Sophomore Day with a Citrus Conference win on Saturday afternoon.
The 13th ranked Titans defeated Hillsborough Community College in four sets, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21 and 25-16 to wrap up the home season. Eastern Florida State College will have two more regular-season matches on the road before getting ready for the FCSAA Division I Volleyball Championships.
On Saturday the Titans came strong as Hailey Mull had a couple of aces to give the Titans an early advantage. It would continue to grow as a couple of Lesmary Raffucci kills put the Titans up 19-12. The Titans would wrap up the first set 25-18.
The second set was tied 13-13 but Hillsborough Community College made a switch that propelled them into the lead and continued on to pick up the set win 25-18.
Tied 1-1, the third set saw the Titans take an early advantage on a Dominae Jordan ace and Cherlialix Carmona kill. Hillsborough would fight back and cut the lead to 21-20 but after a Titans timeout, Raffucci had a kill and the Titans would take the third set 25-21.
The fourth set was tied 7-7 before the Titans took over with some strong serving and a couple big kills from Riley Buddie.
The match was the final home match for five sophomores as Jordan, Mull, Libby Ashline, Sarah Henault and Mariana Bueno Lopes will all move on after this season.
The Titans will travel to Polk State College for a conference match Monday night at 6 p.m. before finishing the season at Santa Fe College Saturday afternoon.
