Women's soccer team shuts out Daytona State College
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team shut out Daytona State College in a conference game Friday night on the road.
The 10th ranked Titans defeated the No. 11 Falcons 2-0 at Daytona State College to improve to 2-0 in the conference.
Eastern Florida State College came out strong and had a couple of chances early in the contest. The Titans had possession for most of the half, but the Daytona State defense was up to the challenge early on.
Lili Baidoe started the run with a good move, then found Tiggi Gent whose shot went off a defender, but Sydney Aldeghi was there to put the ball back up front. Gent took it from there, making a move and hitting a perfect shot past the goalkeeper with two minutes and 41 seconds remaining in the first half.
Daytona State College almost had the equalizer right before halftime, but the defense stood tall and stopped the threat.
Daytona State College came out strong in the second half with a couple of good looks, but goalkeeper Jessica Reis was up to the challenge.
Six minutes into the second half it was Gent once again, this time she took a nice pass from Baidoe, made a nice cut and hit a sweet shot past a diving keeper to make it 2-0.
From there the Titans used a strong defense to keep the Falcons at bay.
Reis finished with seven saves including a great leaping save that looked like a sure goal late in the second half.
The win was the first time in three games that the Titans have picked up the win at Daytona State College.
"They are coming into their own, we were a little worried with some injuries but we asked who was going to step up and take their spot and I think everyone that started and came into the game was fantastic, players were on their A game. Julia Chamberlain came in and played five different positions and was outstanding. Overall a team effort and a gutsy win," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Scott Carswell said. "I think we had a crisis of confidence after LSU-Eunice and then Polk jumped on us 1-0 early we were nervous, but they came back at Polk and really put in about as good of a 90 minutes as we have seen here tonight."
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Miami Dade for a conference game on Friday evening.
