The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team defeated Miami Dade College in a key Citrus Conference game Wednesday night at Titan Field House.
The Titans, who are ranked 25th in the latest national poll, picked up the 62-52 victory to improve to 5-1 in the conference. The game was broadcast locally on WEFS-TV.
Eastern Florida State College finished the first half by scoring 19 of the final 23 points to head into the locker room with a 37-20 lead. Fredy-Salam Sylla led the charge with 10 points in the first half.
The second half saw Miami Dade slowly chip away at the lead and with six minutes remaining had cut it to eight points, 54-46. Corey Caulker hit two free throws to put the lead back to 10 points but Miami Dade would once again hit a big shot to cause the Titans to call timeout with the score 56-49. Some strong free throw shooting and a Chandler Watts drive led to a three-point play and sealed the Titans win.
Sylla finished with 14 points and Watts had 13 in the victory.
Faheim Saintleger Meran finished with 17 points while Hassa Belkhaddar scored 10 for the Sharks.
Eastern Florida State College will be back at Titan Field House next Wednesday, Jan. 29 against Hillsborough Community College in a Citrus Conference game. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. after the women's game.
