Volleyball team falls to New Mexico Military Institute
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost to No. 12 New Mexico Military Institute in the first match of the final day of the Springhill Suites Cheyenne Invitational on Saturday.
The 19th-ranked Titans battled New Mexico Military Institute, falling 21-25, 25-17, 25-27 and 16-25.
Eastern Florida State College came out fast in the first set and took a 13-7 lead on a Lesmary Raffucci kill but New Mexico Military went on a 7-1 run to tie the match 14-14. From there it remained tight, but NMMI scored three of the final points to clinch the victory.
The second set saw the Titans make the big run as they turned an 8-8 tie into a 15-10 lead and would stay out front, posting the 25-17 win and tying the match 1-1.
It looked like New Mexico Military would cruise in the third set but down 22-15, the Titans went on a 7-1 run to cut the lead to 23-22. A block by Jordan and a huge block would tie things at 24-24. But New Mexico Military would hang on for the 27-25 win.
The Broncos would win the fourth set to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Jordan led the Titans with 14 kills while Libby Ashline finished with nine and Aliah Snider had seven.
The Titans (5-3) will wrap up the Cheyenne Invitational with a 3 p.m. match against No. 18 Colby College.
