Men's tennis team opens regular season with a win

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team opened the regular season with a victory Friday at Titan Tennis Center.

The Titans, who are ranked third in the NJCAA Division I national poll, defeated Millenia Atlantic University 7-0.

Eastern Florida State College's No. 1 doubles team of Alexandr Achour and Alberto Perez Mellado won 6-1 and the No. 3 doubles team of Johan Mottlau and Konstantin Kukaras won 6-3.

The No. 2 doubles team of Salva Mulet and Filip Sormaz had a tight match but a big serve from Sormaz ended things 7-6(4) and a sweep of doubles.

That carried over to singles as Perez won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 while Mulet also won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Pablo Garcia Rodriguez picked up his first singles win 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 with Tomas Kurz Cardozo picking up the 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4. Mottlau battled in the first set, taking the 7-6(1) win and then won the second set 6-2. Kukaras won at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-1.

The Titans will be back at home Feb. 27 against Michigan Tech at 10:30 a.m.
