Men's basketball team falls short at Daytona State College

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost a highly-contested conference game at Daytona State College Wednesday night.

The No. 16 ranked Titans fell to No. 2 Daytona State College 74-69 in a road game between the top two teams in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College took the lead six minutes into the contest and some hot shooting led to a 10-0 run as Fredy-Salam Sylla hit a 3-pointer and Corey Caulker hit two of his four on the evening to give the Titans a 15-10 lead with 12:40 left in the first half.

The lead would reach 10 with five minutes left as Sylla hit another 3-pointer but Daytona State College scored six of the final eight points to cut the Titans lead to 31-24 at halftime.

The Titans would get it back to a 10-point advantage and the two teams began trading big shots throughout the first 10 minutes of the second half. The lead reached 16 points on a Wes Isoje basket with 12:30 left.

But Daytona State College turned up the pressure and began chipping away at the lead. The Falcons would tie the game with just under five minutes and took the lead on a big 3-pointer by Eduardo Placer with 2:17 remaining. The Titans would cut it to one point on an Erkins-Ford basket late but the Falcons would score the final four points to pick up the win.

Daytona State College remained unbeaten in conference play while the Titans are now 11-2 in the conference and 22-4 overall.

Sylla finished with 20 points while Caulker had 18 for the Titans. Placer had 20 for Daytona State College.
