The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team opened the Citrus Conference season with a victory Monday night at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.
The Titans used a big second quarter to pull away and beat Daytona State College 91-56 to improve to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. It was the Titans 35th straight win at home and 47th consecutive win in conference play.
The first quarter saw runs by both teams and an E'Zaria Adams basket in the final seconds gave the Titans a 16-14 lead heading to the second quarter.
The second quarter was all Titans as they went on an 11-0 run to start the quarter and outscored the Falcons 28-12, heading to halftime leading 44-26.
Adams made a steal and basket as part of a 7-0 run early in the third quarter as the Titans took a commanding 33-point lead after three quarters. The Titans would win the fourth quarter as Nia Santiago had seven of her 13 points in the quarter as Eastern Florida State College cruised to their first conference win of the season.
Adams scored a career-high 21 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jalei O'Neal and Santiago each had 13 points while Marta Vieira finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. O'Neal caused six offensive charges in the contest as the team had nine. Claudia Peiro Jimenez tied her season high with six assists.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Fort Myers on Wednesday night for a conference game against Florida Southwestern State College.
