Women's basketball team beats Hillsborough CC
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team picked up a conference victory Monday evening at Titan Field House.
Karen Nimo and Ashleigh Battle each had season highs in the win, helping the No. 23 ranked Titans defeat Hillsborough Community College 85-65 in a Citrus Conference game.
The game was tied for much of the first quarter, but Nimo hit a couple of 3-pointers in the final couple minutes of the quarter as the Titans finished strong and led by seven after the first quarter.
The Titans went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter and took a 16-point lead on Nimo's third 3-pointer.
Nimo finished with five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a game-high 26 points which is a season-best for the freshman. It marks the fourth game this season that the guard from Georgia has scored at least 20 points this season.
The lead would reach 33 on a Marta Vieira basket but Hillsborough Community College would finish the third quarter with a basket and then score the next nine points to cause Titans coach MJ Baker to call a timeout. The Titans responded and withstood the Hawks pressure to pull out their second conference win of the season.
Sophomore Ashleigh Battle had a career-high 15 points as the point guard hit three 3-pointers and also grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists. E'Zaria Adams finished with 10 points while Jalei O'Neal had eight points, six rebounds and four steals.
Eastern Florida State College will hit the road on Saturday for a conference game at Miami Dade College. The game will begin at 2 p.m. The Titans will be back home on Monday, Dec. 16 against St. Petersburg College beginning at 5:30 p.m.
