Volleyball team falls, goes 1-1 on Day 1 of FSW Tournament
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost the second game in straight sets at the FSW Battle at the Beach Tournament Friday.
The ninth-ranked Titans, who are now 1-1 on the season, lost 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 to No. 11 Utah State-Eastern in the second game of Day 1 of the tournament.
Eastern Florida State College got off to a slow start but a pair of aces by Mariana Bueno Lopes pulled the Titans to within one, 7-6. It would be tied at 15-15, 17-17, 18-18 and 20-20 before Utah State-Eastern took a three-point lead, 24-21. The Titans made one last run, making it 24-23 before Utah State-Eastern finished it.
Utah State-Eastern would lead the entire second set to go up 2-0.
The third set was tight throughout but after a big block made it 18-18, Utah State-Eastern would score four straight and seven of the final 11 points to pick up the win.
Both teams head into Day 2 at 1-1 on the season.
Eastern Florida State College will open Day 2 against No. 4 Salt Lake Community College at 11:30 a.m. They will wrap up the tournament against Missouri State-West Plains at 4:30 p.m. at Florida Southwestern.
