
Basketball players named Orlando Health Student-Athletes of the Week
A couple of Eastern Florida State College basketball players had strong weeks for the Titans and are the Orlando Health Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 10.
Women's basketball player Karen Nimo has been named for the second straight week while Fredy-Salam Sylla was honored for the first time.
Nimo, a freshman from Augusta, Georgia averaged 13 points, six rebounds and a couple of steals per game in the three games this week, leading the Titans to a perfect 3-0 week. Against East Georgia State College at the TSC Classic, the guard had her first double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
For the season, Nimo is averaging 14.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in five games this season.
Sylla, a freshman from Paris, France averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds in the three games at the CSI Battle for the Boot tournament. In the Titans win over No. 12 CSI, Sylla had 22 points and 11 rebounds and in the championship game against No. 1 South Plains he scored 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Titans fell short of winning the title.
Sylla was named both the FCSAA and NJCAA Division I Player of the Week awards.
For the season Sylla is averaging 17 points and 10.3 rebounds in four games with the Titans this season.
The men's basketball team will be home on Tuesday night while the women's basketball team will compete in the PSC Classic on Friday and Saturday in Pensacola.
