
Gilbert, Nimo named Orlando Health athletes of week
A pair of Eastern Florida State College student-athletes had big weeks for their teams and are the Orlando Health Athletes of the Week.
Men's soccer player Stephen Gilbert and women's basketball player Karen Nimo were both named athletes of the week for the first time.
Gilbert, a freshman from Lithia, Florida, scored three goals and assisted on another in the Titans 7-1 victory against Southern Union State College in the semifinals of the Southeast District Championships.
Gilbert scored the first goal of the day in the 10th minute of the contest and then assisted on the second goal. Then in the second half Gilbert scored twice.
Nimo, a freshman from Augusta, Georgia averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Titans defeated Catawba Valley and Southern Crescent Technical School over the weekend.
Against Catawba Valley, Nimo scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds with seven steals and then came back against Souther Crescent and scored 20 points with nine rebounds and three steals.
Gilbert and the men's soccer team are heading to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament beginning Nov. 17 in Wichita, Kansas. Nimo and the women's basketball team will travel to Tallahassee for the TSC Classic beginning Friday.
