Men's golf team in 15th after three rounds at national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team shot a 296 in the third round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on Thursday.

The Titans are 15th overall in the standings after dealing with a long three-hour weather delay in the middle of the third round at the Rockwind Community Links course in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Bryan Hernandez and Masen McKain each shot 2-over 73 as each had one hole that hurt their round. McKain recorded an eagle on the par 5 fifth hole and marked the third straight day a Titan has recorded an eagle in the round.

Nick Miller and Adam Vermut each shot a 75 while Hugo Griesheimer finished with a 76.

"We struggled with the day, started out well then it got away from us," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We are looking for a good round tomorrow to move into the top 10."

Odessa College shot a 276 to move into a first-place tie with Midland Community College, who shot a 275, and New Mexico Junior College. All three teams are at 1-under for the tournament.

Eastern Florida State College will tee off beginning at 10:12 a.m. in the final round.
