Men's golf team in seventh place in final fall event
The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is in seventh place after the first round of the Jefferson State Fall Invitational at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper, Alabama.
The Titans shot a 301 on Monday and are just four strokes out of fifth place heading into the final day.
Freshman Jamie Chepenik shot a one-over 72 in the first round with two bogeys and a birdie on the par 5 11th hole. Chepenik heads into the final day tied for seventh place overall.
Teammate Adam Vermut is tied for 28th overall after shooting a 4-over 75. Vermut rebounded from a tough stretch with a birdie on No. 18. Bryan Hernandez is one stroke behind Vermut and tied for 40th after a 5-over 76. After a rough front nine, Hernandez shot even par on the back nine.
Nick Miller shot a 78 and is tied for 54th place. Malik Laghjichi shot a 79 as an individual in the tournament.
"With the exception of Jamie Chepenik, we didn't play well. Jamie played solid all day," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "It is our third trip to this site and we have yet to figure out a plan and execute on this golf course."
Central Alabama shot one-over in the first round to lead the event by five strokes over Wallace State.
