
Women's volleyball team begins big week on road Monday
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team is prepared for a big week of Citrus Conference matches.
The Titans begin the week in fourth place in the conference at 2-2 is ranked No. 15 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll. They will open the week with a road match against Hillsborough Community College on Monday evening. The match was scheduled for last Wednesday but with Hurricane Helene headed for the West Coast the match was rescheduled for Monday.
Hillsborough Community College comes into the match ranked No. 18 nationally but 1-3 in the conference after losing to Daytona State College in four sets. Taylor Sass leads FCSAA in kills and kills per set this season with 3.68 per set and 228 overall. Teammate Eimy Domenech has recordfed 274 digs this season which leads the state and is second in digs per set at 4.49.
Eastern Florida State College has won two in a row and is coming off a five-set victory at Daytona State College as Dominae Jordan finished with 12 kills in the match. The sophomore is third in the state with 162 this season and furth in kills per set at 3.60. Teammate Sarah Henault has 206 digs and is averaging 4.48 digs per set which are both in the to four in the FCSAA.
The Titans will be home on Tuesday evening for a conference match against Santa Fe College at Titan Field House beginning at 6 p.m. Santa Fe comes into the match 0-3 in the conference and is led by Aria Eisel who is third in the state with 214 digs this season. It is the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Then on Saturday the Titans will host No. 1 Miami Dade College at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House. The Titans lost to Miami Dade in four sets in the conference opener earlier this season and the Sharks come into the week 5-0 in the conference and 14-0 overall. Katielle Altagracia Alonzo Vargas is averaging 3.64 kills per set and Mia Martinez leads the FCSAA in digs per set at 5.30.
