Volleyball team defeats No. 4 Salt Lake CC
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated No. 4 Salt Lake Community College in straight sets Saturday at the FSW Battle at the Beach Tournament.
The No. 19 Titans, who are now 2-1 on the season, picked up the win 25-12, 25-20 and 25-23.
Sophomore Libby Ashline got the Titans off to a fast start with a couple of blocks, a kill and an ace in the first nine points of the set. The Titans jumped out to a 10-3 lead and went on to cruise to a first set win.
Ashline once again got the Titans off and running in the second set as she had the first two kills of the set. Things remained tight until the Titans went on a 5-0 run behind the serving of Mariana Bueno Lopes who recorded two aces. Salt Lake went on a late run, cutting a nine point lead down to four before closing it out.
The third set was tight early but the Titans once again went on a run behind a couple of kills from Lesmary Raffucci. Salt Lake would tie things up 20-20 and the teams would trade points down the stretch but the Titans would pick up the 25-23 win.
Dominae Jordan finished with 12 kills while Ashline had eight and Raffucci had six. Sarah Henault had 10 digs and Sophia Iglesias had 20 assists.
The Titans will finish the tournament against Missouri State-West Plains at 4:30 p.m.
