Women's volleyball team opens season with two wins

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team started the regular season with a couple of wins at the Pasco-Hernando State College tri-match Friday in New Port Richey.

The Titans improved to 2-0 with straight set wins against Pasco-Hernando and Montgomery College.

Eastern Florida State College opened the day against host Pasco-Hernando and trailed 14-13 in the first set as Juliana De Acharan began to serve. The freshman would score six straight points, giving the Titans a commanding lead. During the run Sophia Kamke had a kill and Delphinia Beams had a big block. De Acharan also had an ace. Kamke would serve with the Titans up 20-16 and served out the match as the Titans won 25-16.

The Titans continued to roll in the next two sets as they seemed to find their groove and were up by as many as 12 in the second set and 10 in the third set on their way to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 victory.

Then the Titans faced Montgomery College who made the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament last season. Eastern Florida State College continued its strong play, winning in straight sets, 25-14, 25-9 and 25-13. Kamke finished with eight points while Paulina Debrova had seven and Sophia Knowles finished with six.

"I am really happy with the way we played today, it is a good start for us," Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball coach Melito Eleutiza said. "We will celebrate these wins and then tomorrow focus on getting another win against St. Petersburg."

Eastern Florida State College is now 2-0 and will play at St. Petersburg College Saturday at noon.
