The Eastern Florida State College softball team split a doubleheader with No. 13 College of Central Florida Saturday afternoon at the Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans lost the first game 6-0, but scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Patriots 3-2.
It marks the second time in the past two years that the Titans have beaten a ranked Patriots team at Titan Softball Complex.
Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor was on top of her game, allowing just two unearned runs in the first inning for her fourth win of the season. Hedetniemi-Taylor struck out two and walked two in the complete game.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Titans ran their way to a run as Rachel Lamoreaux singled, stole second and then Kayla Domon singled up the middle, sending Lamoreaux to third. Then on the first pitch, Domon takes off for second and Lamoreaux goes home on the throw to second to make it 2-1.
Then in the bottom of the seventh inning Courtney Stout singles and then Domon singles and both steal a base to set up second and third. Stout tied the game on Brooke Theisen's sacrifice fly, bringing up Makenzie Fore with a runner on and two out.
Fore hit the first pitch she saw down the third-base line to score Domon with the game winner.
The win was the third in four games for the softball team who are now 6-8 on the season. The Titans lost the first game 6-0 as Addi Lyle had the only hit for the Titans.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Santa Fe College Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and then return to Titan Softball Complex Wednesday evening for a doubleheader against Seminole State College beginning at 4 p.m.
Watch head coach Shelby Petik and Makenzie Fore talk about the win.
