The Eastern Florida State College women's cross country team finished 28th in the Southern Showcase Friday morning in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Titans, who are ranked 18th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country NJCAA Division I national poll, were led by sophomore Rachel Starr who ran the 5K race in 19 minutes, 16.2 seconds.

Teammate Marlie Gonzalez finished right behind her at 19:27.4 as the freshman posted her best finish of the season. Teammate Amelia Shephard also ran her best time of the season, finishing in 21:41.6. Lauren Deal finished in 22:17.5, Isabella Narvaez ran a 22:33.7 and Sierra Kohler finished in 23:37.1.

"It's exciting to see them getting better and we know we can even be better," Eastern Florida State College women's cross country coach Doug Butler said. "Marlie ran a great race, Amelia ran a huge race posting a personal best. Happy to see that we are moving in the right direction."

Ole Miss won the event with Auburn second, Tulane third, Alabama fourth and Kentucky fifth.
