Women's soccer team wins, advances to national tournament championship
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team shut out Arizona Western 1-0 in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament semifinals on Thursday afternoon in Wichita, Kansas.
Lena Borges scored the lone goal in the 38th minute of the first half as she got the ball at the top of the key, spun and fired a shot past the Arizona Western keeper. From there the Titans defense held strong and posted the shutout.
Back in Florida, EFSC President Dr. Jim Richey joined about 200 students and faculty for a watch party in the Student Union on the Melbourne Campus.
"This is another fantastic win by the team backed by great student support. Now it's on to the finals. Go Titans!" said Richey.
Eastern Florida State College is back in the national tournament finals for the second time in three seasons and will face Iowa Western, who beat the Titans in the semifinals last season. Iowa Western defeated Cowley in the first semifinal 1-0.
Saturday's game will be at Stryker Sports Complex at 2 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on ESPN+
