The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team fell short in a battle of top teams Friday night in Tyler, Texas.
The No. 3 ranked Titans fell to No. 2 Tyler Junior College 2-1 in a back-and-forth contest.
Eastern Florida State College came out strong, putting pressure on the Tyler defense and had five corner kicks in the first half alone.
But Tyler would go on the offense and a nice pass led Adizatu Mustapha to a break inside the box and she found the back of the net to give the Apaches a 1-0 lead with 21:19 remaining.
It would go to halftime 1-0 and once again the Titans had some chances but with just over 15 minutes into the second half, Mustapha would make it 2-0.
Eastern Florida State College continued to pressure the defense and would earn a penalty kick with 19 minutes left.
Freshman Laura Di Mascio put it into the corner of the net and Tyler's lead was 2-1. It was DiMascio's second straight game with a goal and has three on the season.
But it was as close as the Titans would get as Tyler held on for the victory.
Eastern Florida State College goalkeeper Lauren Pastor kept Tyler at bay with some really good saves, finishing with eight on the evening.
It was the first loss of the season for the Titans who will play Jacksonville College on Sunday morning at Tyler Junior College. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. CDT.
