Women's soccer team wins title, advances to national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College won the Southeast District title, advancing to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

The sixth-ranked Titans defeated USC Lancaster 5-1 in the final Saturday afternoon at Georgia State College and University in Milledgeville, Georgia.

The Titans did not waste much time getting on the scoreboard as Laura Di Mascio found Samira Roper Morales who scored in the sixth minute of the contest. It was the second straight goal for Morales who has five goals this season.

Teammate Nancy Almanza made it 2-0 in the 16th minute on a pass from Sofia Posner. Six minutes later, Di Mascio scored on a pass from Mia Lewis.

The Titans would lead USC Lancaster 3-1 at halftime.

Almanza scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Morgan Gamin who scored the final goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 55th minute.

It was the 11th season that the Titans have won the Southeast District Tournament and are making the 13th straight appearance in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

Pool play in the national tournament will begin Nov. 12 in Wichita, Kansas.
