EFSC women's soccer team faces Tyler Junior College in national championship

It seems fitting that the Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will play Tyler Junior College Saturday afternoon for the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament.

The two teams will meet for the fourth time in the past five national tournaments with Tyler Junior College winning the first three meetings, all in the national tournament semifinals.

On Saturday the two teams will meet for the national championship at 3 p.m. at Daytona State College. It will be the third time that the Titans will be in the national championship and first in six seasons.

Tyler Junior College has won the past two national titles and three of the past five and will play in the championship game for the sixth straight season on Saturday. The Apaches come into the game as the No. 1 seed and won Pool A with victories over Motlow State and Monroe College. The Apaches have now won 52 straight games.

Eastern Florida State College is the No. 3 seed and started off with a loss to Rose State College in overtime in Pool C but came back to defeat Hill College 2-0 to advance to the semifinals. The Titans defeated No. 2 Seminole State College (OK) 3-0 to reach the final.

"I am proud of the way they have bounced back from the pool play loss where it looked like we might not move on. I don't think we would be in the final right now if we hadn't lost that game, it has been a complete change in mentality, complete change in our attitude and effort and I am super proud of them. They have earned it," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Scott Carswell said. "We have just have to do the little things that we have done all year, move the ball quick, be confident and finish opportunities the way we did tonight."

The championship game will kick off at 3 p.m. Saturday at Daytona State College. The address is 43 Welch Drive, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $20. The game will be shown live online for $5 via njcaa.org/network/live, scroll down to the tile that says D1 Women's Championship, click  and select the DI Women's Soccer Championship Game. It will then prompt you to create an account for access to watch the game live online.
