Women's soccer team faces Daytona State for Region 8 title Saturday
For the third time in four years, the Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will play Daytona State College for the Region 8 Tournament title.
The Titans advanced to Saturday's championship game with a 6-1 victory over Broward College while Daytona State edged ASA Miami 1-0 in double overtime. The teas will meet at 6 p.m. Saturday at Daytona State College for the title and a spot in the Southeast District Tournament.
Eastern Florida State College comes into the final 11-0 overall and No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll. On Thursday night, freshmen Francesca Espinoza and Paula Garrido each scored twice to pace the offensive attack.
Daytona State College advanced to the championship game behind goalkeeper Makenna Gottschalk who made 12 saves and Michelle O'Driscoll scored in the first two minutes of the second overtime. The Falcons come into the final 7-4 overall and have won four of the past six.
Eastern Florida State College has won five straight against the Falcons and won the past two meetings in the Region 8 final.
