Women's golf team placed eighth at NJCAA Division I National Tournament

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team shot its best round of the tournament in the final round on Thursday, finishing eighth overall at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Duran Golf Club.

The Titans shot a 318 to finish the four-day tournament one stroke ahead of Tyler Junior College. It is the second straight season the Titans have finished eighth at the national tournament and third straight season they have competed for a national title.

"It was a little better today. I was hoping it would be a better round for them, they played pretty good for 21 holes and the last six holes they messed up a bit," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. I think they feel better about their finish. They were struggling and I was just trying to shake them out of it."

Brittany Odic and Jenna Barnett each finished at 6-over 79 while Jaida Furlow and Gracie Doke each finished with 80s. It was Doke's final round as a Titan as the sophomore finished tied for 37th overall in the tournament. Emma Parker shot an 81 in the tournament.

Odic, Barnett and Parker will all return next season for the Titans.

"This is a huge learning experience for them and they got a lot of experience under their belts and looking ahead to next year, this will only help us," Howell said.

Daytona State College won the national tournament for the 11th time in school history, fishing 6-under par 1162 as a team which is the lowest total score in a national tournament.

Angelica Holman won the individual title, shooting even par 73 in the final round for the Falcons. The sophomore finished the tournament 8-under 286 which ties a tournament record.
