Velazquez named FCSAA Softball Player of Week

Eastern Florida State College softball player Avery Velazquez was named the FCSAA Division I Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

The freshman hit .750 in six games last week as the Titans went 6-0. Velazquez went 12-for-16 and was 4-for-4 in two different games during the week. The Ocoee, Florida native hit home runs against St. Johns River and Florida Gateway. Velazquez drove in nine runs and scored 10 times with three stolen bases.

It is the first time Velazquez was named the player of the week. She was named pitcher of the week on Jan. 28.

Velazquez also went 5-0 last week on the mound with a 0.56 ERA, striking out 17 last week.

Eastern Florida State College will host Florida Gateway on Thursday afternoon at the Titan Softball Complex. Game 1 of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
