The Eastern Florida State College baseball team opened the Citrus Conference season Thursday with a loss to Hillsborough Community College.
The Titans struggled in the opener, losing 12-3 in seven innings at Bruce Bochy Field.
Eastern Florida State College got on the board first as Ryan Cerrone singled and scored on a passed ball. But the Hawks would get out of the bases loaded jam and then come to the plate and score five times in the top of the second inning. Hillsborough CC would add three more in the third and two more in the top of the fifth.
Down 10-1, Eastern Florida State College would score twice as Adrian Dominguez and Hector Mangual each singled. After an out, Brady Strelitz hit an RBI single and would later score.
But Hillsborough would throw out two runners at the plate to end the Titans rally.
Dominguez finished with three hits and Bryce Pax walked in all three at-bats. Starting pitcher Jesus Portillo took the loss.
Eastern Florida State College (7-5-1, 0-1) will travel to Hillsborough Community College for a pair of games Friday beginning at noon.
