Baseball team hosts College of Central Florida Monday in home opener
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team will host the College of Central Florida Monday in the home opener.
The Titans have started the season with six games on the road and will host the College of Central Florida who is No. 4 in the preseason NJCAA Division I poll.
The two teams met on Saturday afternoon in Ocala and was a high-scoring game that saw the Patriots come out on top, 13-10. The Titans had 12 hits and stole 10 bases in the game.
Eastern Florida State College comes into the contest hitting .250 as a team and has scored 34 runs in six games. Zach Taylor is leading the offensive attack with a .462 average in five games and has driven in nine runs. The team leads the state in stolen bases with 18 in six games as Dalton Robinson leads the team and is tied for the lead in the state with five.
The College of Central Florida is hitting .325 as a team and has scored 57 runs, which is the second most in the state. The Patriots have driven in 52 runs in six games. Kareh Valentin is hitting .526 this season and Kainen Jorge has hit four home runs. On the mound, the Patriots pitching staff has struck out 13.21 hitters per nine innings.
The series has been tight with the Patriots winning three of the past five games between the two teams.
Monday's game at Bruce Bochy Field will begin at 4 p.m. and admission is free. The game will also be streamed live online on the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
