Seminole State College of Florida
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Seminole State College Friday afternoon for their fourth straight win.
The Titans, who improved to 7-4-1 on the season, got a stellar performance from starting pitcher KC Swords and the bats got going early as the Titans picked up the 7-0 victory.
The sophomore from Vero Beach threw seven shutout innings, striking out a career-high 11 hitters to pick up the win. Swords had struck out six in each of his other two appearances this season and has now allowed just one run in his past 12 innings of work.
When Swords did need a little help the defense was there as Seminole State threatened to score in thefifth inning but a grounder to Jason Blackstone ended the threat as he flipped it to Gabriel Cruz at second who turned and fired to Dalton Robinson for the double play.
With Swords dealing on the mound, the Titans went on the attack in the bottom of the first inning.
Jason Blackstone reached on an error, Drew Cavanaugh hit a single, then Blackstone scored on Zachary Taylor's single and then Dalton Robinson singled to score Cavanaugh. Taylor would score the third run.
The Titans would score two more in the sixth and then Gabriel Cruz doubled and scored on Taylor's second triple of the day in the eighth inning.
Don McKnight III finished with three hits and Taylor's two triples tied a program record.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Winter Haven on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against Polk State College. Polk State is 9-6 on the season and beat Pasco-Hernando 8-7 to snap a four-game losing streak.
