Game 1
Palm Beach State College
Sophomore Jasson Corniel stepped to the plate for the first time with his team needing a big hit.
And he wasted no time, hitting the first pitch back up the middle scoring both Andres Ramos and Jakob Zarrello as the Eastern Florida State College baseball team defeated Palm Beach State College 5-4 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Titans swept the doubleheader with the Panthers and are 8-16 in the Southern Conference heading into a four-game series with Broward College.
In the first game of the day, starting pitcher JP Williams tossed seven strong innings, allowing one run and striking out 10.
Both defenses shined early as each threw out a runner trying to score from second on a single. It remained scoreless for the first four innings, but Dylan Espinal got the Titans on the board in the fifth inning with a double, took third base and scored on the errant throw to third.
With the game tied 1-1 in the eighth inning, Elian Merejo was hit by a pitch, and ended up scoring later in the inning on Paul Castillo's sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Cam Weinberger pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
The Titans came out strong in Game 2 as Ramos came up in the bottom of the first inning with the bases loaded and hit a shot in the gap for a three-run double. The Titans would keep the lead until the top of the seventh inning when Palm Beach State took advantage of a couple walks and an error to score twice and take a 4-3 lead.
But with one out in the top of the seventh, Ramos singled and Zarello hit a double to set up Corniel's walk-off hit.
Raynieri De Los Santos Disla picked up the win in relief of starter Mason Studstill.
The Titans will host Broward College in the final series of the regular season on Wednesday night at Bruce Bochy Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be shown live on WEFS-TV and online at efsctitans.com/webcast
Friday and Saturday's games will be at Broward College.
