Baseball team defeats Daytona State
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team picked up a 5-3 victory over Daytona State College Wednesday night at Bruce Bochy Field.
Titans starting pitcher Borris Villa had his second straight strong outing, striking out 13 in 5 1/3 innings for his first win, allowing three hits and one earned run.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Jakob Zarrello drove in two runs and took a 4-1 lead.
Daytona State College would cut the lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning, but JP Williams got out of the jam in the eighth inning and pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save.
Dylan Espinal had three hits and scored a run while Cristian Sanjurjo had two hits and drove in a run. Elian Merejo scored twice in the win as the Titans improved to 5-3 on the season.
The Titans will host the College of Central Florida on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is 1 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field. Admission is free.
