Women's cross country team set for Region 8 Championships

The Eastern Florida State College women's cross country team will compete in the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Cross Country Championships Tuesday in Tallahassee.

The women's team will look to repeat as the Region 8 Division I champions, running at 9:30 a.m. The race will be an 5K race at Apalachee Regional Park and will feature 12 teams from around the state.

Rachel Starr is the lone sophomore on the group and is excited to be back healthy and see how good this group can be.

"I feel like we have been pretty consistent, everyone is healthy and running consistent, strong times considering they are just freshmen," Starr said. "They really impress me, the workouts are really strng and consistent and I am really excited to see how we do."

Starr is coming back from an injury and feels almost 100 percent as she heads into the postseason.

"I am hoping for a season's best time, I am trying to stay positive and make the most of the running I have been able to do. I think the team will be fine, I am not worried about them at all," Starr said.

The top teams in Tuesday's race will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament which will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 in Huntsville, Alabama.
