Women's golf team opens fall season at Seminole State event

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team will open the Fall season this weekend at the Seminole State Warm-up at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford.

The Titans will be one of five teams competing in the season-opening tournament hosted by Seminole State College who has won the national tournament the past three seasons and five times.

"This is a litmus test to see where we are right now, I made the schedule to play one early and then have some time to evaluate how we did and what we need to do better. This is a good one to get their feet on the ground and see what college golf looks like," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We are young but I like that they work, they show up willing to do the work and all of the things that you have to do in order to get better."

Eastern Florida State College is led by sophomore Gracie Doke who is returning after playing in XX tournaments including the national tournament in her freshman season. She is the only sophomore on the team with five freshmen.

"I have good leadership with Gracie Doke and a young lady from St Cloud Jenna Barnett has come in and stepped up right away, we just have to fight to get better every day," Howell said. "Gracie grasped the concept of college golf early last year and is a hard worker, she is one of the first to be at practice, she has a good plan every day. All that is going to do is pay off for her in the long run."

The Seminole State event is the first of four fall tournaments for the Titans.
