Women's golf team remains in top 10 at national tournament
The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team endured heavy winds and a two hour weather delay in the third round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Garden City, Kansas.
"I know we made a bunch of bogeys, it was playing hard with the wind this morning, the chipping and putting was as tough as can be, it is hard out here. It is really hard and they were hanging in there, the body language was good, the attitudes were good but the rain delay came and we didn't come back," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said.
The Titans shot a 324 and are in ninth place overall in the tournament. The team had just turned onto the back nine when the weather delay came so were mostly around the 13th hole when play resumed.
As a team the Titans shot 15-over on the final four holes after the weather delay.
"We came out after the delay and were flat as a pancake and I don't have an explanation for it," Howell said. "The downside is we played poorly in good weather and the teams behind us are going to make up ground on us."
Sarah Knitter posted a 79 on Thursday and was 1-over through the first seven holes of the day. Teammate Jasmine Yang was the one player who had a better back nine, shooting 3-over with one of the three birdies the Titans had on Thursday. Yang had an 80 while Morela Boyd shot an 82 and both Gracie Doke and Savannah Hawthorne shot 83s.
Eastern Florida State College will tee off at 9 a.m. Friday in the final round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
Seminole State College had a good third round, shooting a 291 and are 20 strokes ahead of Daytona State College.
