EFSC women's golf team tied for ninth after first round of national tournament
The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team had some trouble with their putters in the first round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kansas.
The Titans are tied for ninth overall after shooting a 319 on Tuesday.
Freshman Sarah Knitter shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 13th overall. After a slow start, Knitter birdied the fifth hole and the 11th to shoot 2-over on each side.
Teammate and fellow freshman Gracie Doke is tied for 24th overall after shooting a 7-over 79 Tuesday. Doke was 1-over on the back nine and had a birdie on the 12th.
Savannah Hawthorne is tied for 30th with an 80, while Morela Boyd had an 84 and Jasmine Yang finished with an 86.
"We struggled a lot on the greens, I walked with each one of the ladies throughout the day and I only saw one long putt made when Sarah made a birdie on No. 11. We just didn't do well reading the greens at all," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We have three rounds to play, put this one in your rearview mirror and we learn from today ad go out and play tomorrow. Just learn from it, every day we play we get a little more familiar with the course."
Seminole State shot 5-over 293 to lead Daytona State College by seven strokes. The Titans will tee off at 9:45 a.m. for round 2 of the tournament Wednesday.
