Women's golf team finishes fifth at Georgia invitational

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team shot their best round of the tournament in the final round of the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invite in Valdosta, Georgia on Tuesday.

The Titans shot a 324 in the final round to finish with a 980 to place fifth in the tournament.

Morela Boyd shot a 77 in the final round to finish 15th overall with a 235. The freshman had a hole-in-one on the 17th hole which is a 143-yard hole. Boyd hit a six iron to become the second women's golfer to hit a hole-in-one in a tournament in program history.

Teammate Gabrielle Fernandez also shot a 77 in the final round to finish 19th overall.

Delia Timpy and Savannah Hawthorne finished tied for 26th while Kira Shellman was tied for 30th.

"Good playing by Morela and Gabby. Again, if we can find some balance in our scoring and clean up the basics, then the tools are in place for a better all-around score," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said.

Keiser University won the tournament, shooting a 904 for the three rounds.

The Titans will compete in the USCB Ladies Invitational beginning Monday.
