Women's golf team opens fall season with solid round

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team shot a 333 in the first round of the Seminole State Warm-Up at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford on Saturday.

Sophomore Lily Rinker shot a 4-over 76 in the first round as in third place overall, two strokes ahead of leader Ayami Takahashi of host Seminole State College.

Sophomore Kira Shellman shot an 82 while teammates Jasmine Yang (86) and Savannah Hawthorne (89) each played in their first round of collegiate golf.

"It was a good opener for Lily," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Missing a player definitely hurt us today as we did not have any balance scoring. Both Jasmine and Savannah both had some nerves working and will only improve as we continue to compete."

Seminole State College, who is the defending national champions, shot a 305. The teams will compete in the final round on Sunday.
