Women's golf team set to open fall season Saturday

Women's golf team set to open fall season Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team has a good mix of returning players and new faces as they head into the new season.

The Titans have four players returning from last year's team and have added three new players for the 2021 season.

"This is the largest roster I have had on the women's side and I like the folks that we have recruited this season. We are deeper, qualifying will actually be qualifying and I hate to leave anyone behind but at the same time it will be good for them to compete for the spot," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach said. "The excitement is there and I just hope that same excitement will be there in April, that is my challenge. Keeping them excited the entire season. The four returners have been working really hard and the newcomers are seeing how hard they work."

Delia Timpy, Olivia Timpy, Kira Shellman and Gabrielle Fernandez are all coming back after helping the team pick up a win and finished in the top three four times in the eight tournaments.

"It is a relatively familiar group back this year which is great, but it is also exciting to see how the new players are fitting in and start to feel good about the new season," Delia Timpy said.

Freshmen Jasmine Yang and Savannah Hawthorne join the team after successful high school careers while Lily Rinker is a transfer.

"I just love seeing new faces, looking back to where I was last year, I can see it in the new girls and I can't wait to see them grow and learn like I did," Fernandez said. "We have a lot of really good players and a strong team, I am excited to see this group play together."

The team will open the fall schedule this weekend in Sanford for the Seminole State Fall Warm-up event on Saturday and Sunday.

"I am super excited to get the season started," Shellman said. "I worked on my game over the summer and can't wait to start the season and get off to a a strong start. It is a good group returning and I just can't wait to see what we can do this season."

The Seminole event will be the first of four events in the fall season for the women's golf team.
