Women's basketball team ready for big weekend in Niceville
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will head to Niceville for a couple of top 10 matchups in the Northwest Florida Tournament this weekend.
The Titans come into the tournament ranked third and will play No. 6 Gulf Coast State College on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Northwest Florida State College. Gulf Coast State College comes into the matchup 3-0 and is coming off a victory against Salt Lake Community College.
Eastern Florida State College is 1-1 on the season after falling to Pensacola State College in overtime last weekend in Jacksonville. Sophomore Amelia Hassett is averaging 24.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while teammate Jaidyn Koerdt is averaging 15.5 points. The Titans are averaging 83.5 points per game this season.
Then on Saturday the Titans will play defending national champion Northwest Florida State College at 6:30 p.m. The No. 1 ranked team is 3-0 this season and is averaging 78.7 points per game this season.
"This weekend will be challenging," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach MJ Baker said. "We are travelling and playing nationally ranked teams Gulf Coast and Northwest Florida back to back, both on Northwest's home court. Then a week from now we play Gulf Coast again. These next three games will be a true measure of our team."
