Five announce they have committed to four-year schools

Five announce they have committed to four-year schools

Five Eastern Florida State College women's basketball players have signed on to play with four-year colleges in the fall.

All five players were important members of the Titans who won the Central Conference for the second straight season, going a perfect 12-0 in conference games and had 33 wins, reaching the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

L'or Eyeba Mputu has committed to attend the University of South Florida after two seasons with the Titans. Mputu started 33 of the team's 35 games and averaged 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 14.7 minutes per game and was the Central Conference Player of the Year. The Democratic Republic of Congo native was named to NJCAA Division I All-America second team and finished her two seasons with 742 points, 430 rebounds and 93 blocks in 67 games.

She will play for the Bulls who went 27-7 overall and 15-1 in the American Athletic Conference last season.

Elli Garnett has decided to go to Winthrop University after the guard from Golden, Colorado averaged 15 points, six rebounds and four assists over the three NJCAA Diivision I National Tournament and finished the season averaging 8.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in 34 games. Garnett was named to the national tournament all-tournament team.

Leilani Guion has committed to Troy University next season after averaging 11.1 points per game in 35 games last season for the Titans. Guion was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Region VIII Tournament. Troy went 17-13 overall and was 12-6 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Madlena Irena Gerke has chosen to attend NCAA Division I University of Evansville who went 11-19 last season in the Missouri Valley Conference. Gerke recorded an average of 5.9 points per game in 31 games, registering 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest.

Shadaria Smith will be attending Southern Connecticut State University, an NCAA Division II school that went 18-12 last season and made it to the Northeast 10 Conference quarterfinals. Smith was named to the Region VIII All-Tournament Team and in her two seasons with the Titans the guard from Orlando has started 64 of the 66 games and averaged 11.5 points.
