Women's basketball team opens conference season on road Wednesday
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will open the Central Conference schedule Wednesday night on the road.
The Titans come into the conference season as the defending champions and are 16-1 this season, ranked No. 6 in the country and No. 2 in the Region 8 poll. The team will travel to Santa Fe College who is looking to pick up their first conference win of the season.
The Saints have lost four in a row, but three of those losses have been to top 20 teams in the nation. In the conference opener last Saturday, Santa Fe lost on a last-second 3-pointer that gave the Florida State College at Jacksonville the 54-51 victory.
Santa Fe is 7-9 overall and 0-1 in the conference and are led by Malea Brown who is second in scoring in the state, averaging 20.7 points per game. Teammates Joey Delancy and Selah Reddick are each averaging 11 points per game for the Saints.
Eastern Florida State College is 18th in the nation in scoring, averaging 78.3 points per game and is second in the country in blocked shots per game, averaging 7.3 and is fifth in the country in rebounds, averaging 49.1 per game. Shadaria Smith is averaging 11.7 points per game as six Titans are averaging at least 8.3 points per game.
Wednesday night's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and can be seen live online at the Saints Sports Network.
