The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 65-54 victory over Palm Beach State College Friday.
The Titans, who are ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA Division I poll, got things started right from the tip as Stephanie Torres and Anja Knoflach hit back-to-back 3-pointers and the Titans led by as many as nine in the first quarter. The Titans continued to lead throughout the first half and led by Torres' 17 first-half points, took a 36-29 lead into the locker room.
Palm Beach State's Caleese Ramirez cut the lead to two points in the third quarter with a big 3-pointer. But the Titans went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead and never looked back.
Torres tied her career high with 24 points to lead the Titans. Teammate Natalia Beaumont finished with her first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the game.
The women's basketball team will be back on the court Saturday, traveling to Santa Fe College to play fourth-ranked Chipola College at 5 p.m.
