Big day of basketball, giveaways set for Saturday at Titan Fieldhouse

The Eastern Florida State College basketball teams will be back at Titan Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon for key Southern Conference matches.

The women's basketball team will tip off the big day of basketball, facing Broward College at 2 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on WEFS-TV or online at efsctitans.com/webcast.

The Titans come into the game 1-1 in the conference but is home for the first time in over two weeks. Trudy Walker leads Eastern Florida State College, averaging 14.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. The sophomore has seven double doubles in her past nine games and 10 on the season.

Broward College is No. 8 in the latest Region 8 poll and comes into the game 13-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference after losing to Florida Southwestern last Saturday.

Nicole Jimenez leads the Seahawks in scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game while teammates Weknyne Dumorne is averaging 13 points and Ieva Spigule is scoring 12 points per game.

The men's basketball team will take the court in the second game of the day, hosting high-scoring Miami Dade at 4 p.m.

The Titan men come into the contest 3-2 in the Southern Conference after falling to Palm Beach State on the road. Kareem Brewton leads Eastern Florida in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per game which is second in Region 8.

Miami Dade comes into the contest as the highest scoring team in Region 8 averaging 104.3 points per game in 19 games. The Sharks are led by Darnell Dunn who is averaging 21.2 points per game but 27.3 points in conference games.

Saturday will be Green Dot Initiative Day at Titan Fieldhouse and there will be games and giveaways in between the two games.

The Green Dot Initiative is a Violence Prevention Strategy focusing on preventing power-based violence in our community. A green dot is any word, attitude or behavior that promotes safety for everyone by intervening in high risk Red Dot situations.
