Women's basketball team falls short against Daytona State

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team lost a close game with Daytona State College on Thursday night at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

Neither team could gain more than a three or four-point edge in the contest and with three minutes remaining and the game tied, Daytona State came up with the big shots to pick up the 70-60 victory.

"We played well enough to win tonight, we didn't make shots that we normally make and left a ton of points on the board. We missed a ton of layups and open shots we normally make," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach Jim Grimes said. "We executed pretty well but then the final three possessions we either had bad shots or a turnover and you just can't do that in a close game."

Idaysha Sealey led the team with a career-high 15 points, hitting five of eight 3-pointers.

"Idaysha gives us a big punch on offense, she is super talented," Grimes said. She will just get better and better as she gets her wind and in tune with what we are running, she is new to a lot of that."

Theodora Odia is also still getting healthy and playing more and on Thursday night she got the Titans offense started, scoring all nine of her points in the first half.

"They both played well tonight, especially on the offensive end," Grimes said. "I was pleased with both of their efforts."

Sophomore Trudy Walker finished with her ninth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Teammate Victoria Morales finished with 12 points.

Njeri Nelms led the Falcons with a game-high 29 points, seven coming in the final three minutes of the game.

The Titans, who fell to 5-12 on the season, will begin the Southern Conference season next Wednesday, traveling to Florida Southwestern for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
