Titan Women at Home on Wednesday Then They, Men Hit the Road

The road beckons for Eastern Florida's men's and women's basketball team as the FCSAA Southern Conference schedule deepens.

The men, three-time defending conference champions, play four of their next five games away from home including a stretch of three in five days.

They visit Miami Dade College in Kendall on Wednesday and host Palm Beach State at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Titan Field House on the Melbourne Campus. The home game will be televised live on WEFS-TV and streamed at www.efsctitans.com. Admission is free.

The men then pack up to visit Broward College in Davie on Monday, Jan. 25, ASA Miami in Hialeah on Wednesday, Jan. 27 and Indian River State in Fort Pierce on Saturday, Jan. 30.

"Everybody gets their turn with that stretch of the schedule and this year we get to experience it," said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman.

"This is a crucial part of the season and the players realize it. We'll be ready."

The defending conference champion women play two of their next four on the road. They host St. Petersburg College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Titan Field House, travel to Fort Pierce to play Indian River State on Saturday, host Broward on Tuesday, Jan. 26 and visit Miami Dade in Kendall on Jan. 30.

"Road games in our conference demand the best a team has to offer," said Titans women's head coach Jim Grimes. "A victory on the road is huge."

The women are 4-0 in the conference with two road victories, defeating St. Petersburg and Broward. The men also are 4-0 with one road victory at Palm Beach.

The women are 11-7 overall and ranked fifth in Florida. The men are 16-3 overall and ranked third in the state.

Freshman Kareem Brewton continues to set the pace for the Titan men, averaging 16.3 points per game. Also in double figures are classmate C.J. Jackson at 13.8, and sophomores B.J. Gladden and Djordje Beronja at 11.5 and 11.3 respectively.

Gladden leads in rebounding at 9.1, Jackson in assists at 5.1 and steals at 2.5.

Sophomore Paola Vasquez leads the women in scoring at 14.4 points per game followed by classmate Nene Johnson at 14.2. Johnson leads in assists at 5.2 and freshman Trudy Walker in rebounding at 8.6. Sophomore Crystal Townsend is averaging 8.2 boards per game. Vasquez is averaging 1.5 steals.
